Quick answer

Does Doormec cover the South Coast?

Doormec Garage Doors provides garage door repairs, servicing, supply and installation across the New South Wales South Coast, including Shellharbour, Shell Cove, Warilla, Barrack Heights, Flinders, Windang, Lake Illawarra, Kiama, Minnamurra, Jamberoo, Gerringong, Berry and Nowra. Common South Coast work is salt corrosion on springs and cables, roller door curtains seized in their drums after long periods of disuse at holiday houses, opener failures, and oversized rural shed doors. Doormec repairs all brands, charges $170 plus parts for a standard service call, provides free replacement quotes and offers 24-hour emergency callout on 0490 774 111.

Local conditions

What is different about South Coast doors

Two things make the South Coast different. First, a meaningful share of the housing is holiday and weekender stock, and a door that sits unused for three months in salt air behaves very differently to a door cycled four times a day. Seized rollers, flat opener batteries and springs that have rusted solid in the drum are ordinary calls here. Second, once you get past Kiama the blocks get bigger and the sheds get wider. Berry, Jamberoo and the Nowra hinterland are full of 4.8m to 6m openings on rural sheds, which needs different spring maths and often a heavier duty motor than a suburban double door.

Suburb pages

Every South Coast suburb we cover

Each suburb page covers the housing stock, the local conditions and the faults we actually see there, rather than the same paragraph with a name swapped in.

Shellharbour

2529

Shellharbour covers the old village on the point and a great deal of newer housing behind it, and the salt exposure varies enormously between the two.

Shellharbour page

Shell Cove

2529

Shell Cove is new housing right on the water, which is an unusual combination: modern doors facing serious marine exposure.

Shell Cove page

Warilla

2528

Warilla sits between the lake and the ocean, and gets salt from both directions with very little shelter.

Warilla page

Barrack Heights

2528

Barrack Heights is elevated and exposed, and the wind here is as much a factor as the salt.

Barrack Heights page

Flinders

2529

Flinders is modern estate housing on the hill, largely double garages with sectional doors and automatic openers.

Flinders page

Windang

2528

Windang is a sand spit with water on both sides. There is nowhere in our service area harder on garage door hardware.

Windang page

Lake Illawarra

2528

Lake Illawarra is quiet, established and low-lying, and its garages are damper than people realise.

Lake Illawarra page

Kiama

2533

Kiama is exposed coastal, hilly, and full of character homes with garages that were never designed for a modern car.

Kiama page

Minnamurra

2533

Minnamurra is small, riverside and salty, and most of the housing is comfortable family stock from the 80s and 90s.

Minnamurra page

Jamberoo

2533

Jamberoo is a valley with larger blocks and bigger sheds, and shed doors are a different job to house doors.

Jamberoo page

Gerringong

2534

Gerringong is high, green and thoroughly exposed to the ocean, with a big share of second homes.

Gerringong page

Berry

2535

Berry is rural and semi-rural with large sheds, wide openings and a lot of heritage streetscape to respect.

Berry page

Nowra

2541

Nowra is the southern end of our run, covering both suburban housing and a substantial rural and light industrial base.
